Teacher in Kentucky Fired After Allegedly Downing Four Vodka Shots in Class

Substitute teacher downs shots of vodka in class

A substitute teacher in Kentucky was taken to jail on Monday after she allegedly endangered a group of middle school students by downing several vodka shots and yelling and cursing at the kids instead of teaching.

Brook Ellen West, 32, was arrested Monday by Scott County deputies on charges of public intoxication and endangering the welfare of a minor. Deputies said West told authorities that she downed four shots of vodka while substituting for a class at Royal Springs Middle School in Georgetown, Kentucky. Deputies performed a breathalyzer test on the substitute which showed the teacher had a .317 blood alcohol level when she was arrested.

West also reportedly yelled and cursed at several children in the class, according to WKYT-TV.

Students in the middle school class ranged in age between 11 and 13-yearsold.

According to a statement from Scott County Schools, West is no longer employed by the district "in any capacity."

"On Monday, April 15, 2019, a substitute reported to Royal Spring Middle School to fill a half-day opening in the afternoon. The substitute demonstrated erratic behavior. School staff acted immediately upon learning of this behavior. Scott County Sheriff’s Department escorted the substitute off school grounds later charging her with alcohol intoxication. The individual is no longer employed by Scott County Schools in any capacity."
