Five TSA Agents Injured After Man Tried To Run Past Security Checkpoint

Five TSA agents were injured after a man tried to rush past a security checkpoint at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The City of Phoenix Aviation Department released the video of the attack, which shows the suspect running through a full body scanner and shoving one of the agents to the ground.

The man, identified as 19-year-old Tyrese Garner, then took a swing at another agent and the two began to brawl as other agents rushed to stop Garner. He then pushed another agent down before he was tackled to the ground and detained.

One of the TSA agents was taken to the hospital for treatment, while the other four agents were taken to an urgent care clinic. All the agents have been released.

Garner was charged with one felony count each of criminal trespassing and resisting arrest, as well as five counts of misdemeanor assault. Officials have not said why Garner decided to attack the agents. The police report suggested that he may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time.

"This unprovoked and brazen physical attack against our employees is unacceptable," Lorie Dankers, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration said. "We are grateful for our committed workforce and for the role they play in protecting the traveling public every day. We continue to monitor the safety and health of the TSOs involved in this incident and will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation."
