Vice President Mike Pence is telling NASA to put Americans on the moon within the next five years. Pence passed along that directive from President Trump on Tuesday, at the fifth meeting of the National Space Council. Current estimates say U.S. astronauts won't walk on the moon before 2028. Pence said that's "not good enough." He called up Cold War language, saying the U.S. is in a space race against Russia and China, which Pence called adversaries. No one has walked on the moon since 1972 and Pence said NASA should return by any means necessary, even if it means using rockets and landers built by private companies.
