Netflix is pledging to reduce the amount of smoking depicted in their content. A new report by The Truth Initiative took a look into Netflix's tobacco depictions in their most popular programs among viewers ages 15 to 24. The report found Netflix's depictions of smoking tripled last year. In response, the company has promised to eliminate smoking in all TV programming rated TV-14 and below and movies rated PG-13 and under, except for reasons of historical or factual accuracy. The anti-tobacco watchdog group The Truth Initiative says multiple findings show young people are more likely to start smoking if they see their favorite characters doing it on TV.
