New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers could reportedly join the Pittsburgh Steelers during the upcoming offseason, according to veteran NFL insider Peter King during a recent episode of the Let's Go podcast.
āI think we have seen Russell Wilson hit a wall, and whether [head coach] Mike Tomlin is even thinking about itā¦ā King said of the Steelers' quarterback situation. āIf I were the Pittsburgh Steelers, knowing that Iāve got [defensive tackle] Cam Heyward, [edge rusher] T.J. Watt ā I got guys on defense with their expiration dates not long in the future ā I would want to come in and try to get a quarterback who could make me competitive with [the AFC North Division rival] Baltimore [Ravens] and Cincinnati [Bengals] in 2025. And that guy, to me, is Aaron Rodgers.ā
Rodgers is currently signed with the Jets through the 2025 season, however, is schedule to make an un-guaranteed $37.5 million on a $23.5 million salary cap number and could either be traded or cut if New York decides to move on this offseason. The four-time MVP suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during his first drive with the Jets in 2023 and experienced one of the worst seasons of his career in 2024, leading the team to a 5-14 record.
Wilson signed a one-year contract with the Steelers after being released by the Denver Broncos last offseason. The former Super Bowl champion missed Pittsburgh's first six games before going 6-5 as a starter in 2024.
The Steelers are the No. 6 seed in the AFC and will face the division rival Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round on Saturday (January 11), having previously won at home in November and lost on the road in December during their annual two matchups.
